Our October 11 launch was graced with decent weather and the wide-open spaces of our Hughes Farm launch site. Eighteen flyers posted 112 flights, tying our highest single day flying total from 2008. Ed McCarthy led the pack with 21 flights. For the year, we have a dead heat for flying leader, with Kurt Gunther and Bob Kaplow’s 49 flights, followed closely by Ed McCarthy with 48. As a club, we now have 470 flights total, second place in club history (558 flights in 2009). Our final launch will be November 15. Hope to see you all there to close out our 2020 flying season!
September 26, 2020 Launch Report
The Fox Valley Rocketeers closed our our 2020 flying at Kishwaukee Park yesterday with 71 flights. We were led by Ed McCarthy who somehow managed to post 17 flights. For the year overall, Kurt Gunther maintains a 1 flight lead over Bob Ka’pla, 43 to 42. Join us next month at our Hughes Seed Farm site. And remember, the launches shift to Sunday afternoons.
September 19 Launch Report
The Fox Valley Rocketeers has a very successful day flying yesterday. Fourteen flyers posted 74 flights, led by Ed McCarthy with 10, followed closely by Kurt Gunther, Mike Moran and Mark Bundick with 9. Kurt Gunther takes over our flights leaderboard with 40 for all of 2020, just 4 flights ahead of Bob Kaplow. We now have a total of 287 flights for 2020, 129 flights behind last year’s pace. Not bad for starting in July!
September 12 Launch Postponed
Given the weather forecast, we are cancelling tomorrow’s September 12 launch and will look to reschedule for the following Saturday, September 19.
August 22 Launch Report
Ten flyers posted a total of 58 flights at our August 22 launch. We had a nice mix of sport and competition flights. FVR has managed 213 flights this year; given that we didn’t start flying until July, that’s pretty good! Bob Kaplow retains his “flight leader” status with 36 flights, but Kurt Gunther is hot on his heels with 31. See you next on September 12!
